Have you ever tried to sleep on an airplane? Sitting up?  With a baby talking and crying behind you? And the person in front of you constantly adjusting their seat? Well I have…

We just landed in Spain. We left Atlanta at 6:55 PM and arrived in Madrid at 9:30ish in the morning the next day (It’s 3:30 AM in Alabama!). In an ideal world, everyone on the plane would have eaten their worse-than-frozen-dinner plane dinner, put their headphones in to watch the in flight movie, and fallen quietly asleep. But as we all know from prior experience, we don’t live in an ideal world.

Let me say that the flight could have been much worse. And I’m glad to have made it half way across the world in one piece, with maybe more sleep than others. But if you know me, you know finding the flaws in things (and giving my opinion on how to fix them) is one of my many talents!

We went through immigration pretty quickly, and walked through the door marked “Customs- No Declarations.” It led us outside. I guess the Spanish are a little more laid back than the US about these things.

We made it to Athens! We have traveled for about 27 hours straight. We left Sea Island, GA about 10 AM eastern time on Monday. We arrived here about 1:15 PM eastern time on Tuesday. Whew! What a day. We finally found our hotel after asking several Greek people who weren’t very nice, or who couldn’t understand our English! We went to eat dinner in the area the hotel lady told us about. There were several teenagers and college kids, as well as tons of places to eat. As we were leaving, we saw the Athens Riot police. We fully expect to see something in the news in the morning. If not, we don’t know why they were all congregated on the corner.
